National puppet festival to be held in Chennai
CHENNAI: Once vibrant in the social life of people, puppetry is today facing extinction. Those who practised the art have moved to other fields due to lack of sponsorship and recognition.
However, a few artists are still running the show in the remote pockets of Tamil Nadu and some other states.

A national puppet festival will be held at DakshinaChitra, Muttukadu, from September 22 to 24.
The three-day festival will present various forms of puppetry such as Bommalaatam, Tholpaavaikoothu, rod and shadow puppetry, Tarer Putul and Kathputli by artistes from Tamil Nadu, Telangana, West Bengal and Rajasthan.
